Asian American Ballet Project
Receding and Reemerging
June 21 & 22, 2025
Arrow Street Arts, Cambridge, MA
Asian American Ballet Project’s 3rd annual performance, Receding and Reemerging, weaves together six original ballets that honor ancient folktales, confront painful histories, and unravel the complexities of Asian American identity.
With original choreography, live music, and bold new interpretations, AABP offers a powerful artistic response to this moment. Featuring the work of 18 Asian American artists, Receding and Reemerging invites audiences to imagine a future where Asian American stories are not only seen — but celebrated.
Featured Works Include:
Spectre de la Rose – A reimagining of the 1911 Ballet Russes classic inside a WWII Japanese American assembly center.
The Legend – A modern retelling of a Kazakh folktale pitting man against beast.
Mended Vespers – A reflection on connection and desire during the pandemic.
Aigul – A Kyrgyz moonflower myth exploring strength and collective power.
Entwined Destinies – A duet journeying through the Red Thread of Fate.
Gabi sa Gubat / Night Jungle – A mythic Philippine forest filled with fantastical creatures.
