Academy Award winning composer Rachel Portman's The Little Prince, based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s Le petit Prince, is an imaginative and melodic setting of the unlikely bond of a Little Prince from a neighboring Asteroid and a Pilot whose plane has crash-landed in the desert. The opera highlights in a fantastical way what the true meaning of life is by introducing a plethora of characters whose vices disappoint the young Prince. Power, vanity, addiction, workaholism - they all distract from seeing truly with one's heart, not one's eyes. An opera for all ages, the lessons of love, loss, laughter, and healing through letting go are embraced through a sonorous score and with vivid characters who aid both the Prince and the Pilot in discovering the profound truth in friendship and love.
